The Art of Ananda

Niyama Yoga Retreats was founded on the concept of valuing a traditional approach to honoring the 8 limbs of yoga while incorporating tangible methods in highly pranic environments to lead to ANANDA (आनन्द); or bliss-like life experiences. Yogic philosophy and Vedic texts invite one to experience a sense of balance, well-being, ease, happiness and joy in any given moment. This is Ananda. In accordance with our Founder Nicole Zornitzer’s Ayurvedic roots, Niyama Yoga Retreats offers our clients appropriate guidance and tools to experience Ananda.

Ananda is a feeling that is unlike any other; the moment we experience this bliss-like sensation our awareness of self deepens and our path to finding self-realization expands.

Yoga invites one to embrace the Koshas of the body, the Koshas are the five layers of the body.
The 5 Koshas are:

  1. Physical Body (Ananamaya)
  2. Energetic Body (Pranamaya)
  3. Mind (Manomaya)
  4. Witness Self/Third Eye (Vijnanamaya)
  5. Bliss Body (Anandamaya)

When the Koshas are out of balance in any particular layer the body will experience dis-ease. These Koshas are believed to surround our soul;when cared for appropriately a state of Ananda is achieved.

High Prana Environments
With an understanding of the 8 Limbs of Yoga, the Koshas and Ayurveda we become acutely aware of the need to expose ourselves to environments that foster growth and expansion of our mind / body connection. Therefore, at Niyama Yoga Retreats we take our clients to environments that truly encourage this method of healing. Each retreat venue is chosen with very precise intention while ensuring that attention to detail, from sleeping options to food preparation, is vetted prior to choosing any retreat destination. We pride ourselves in servicing our clientele with beautiful surroundings, delicious healthy food, amazing excursion experiences, blissful spa offerings, and so much more. Our goal is for everyone to leave refreshed, renewed and inspired to achieve Ananda beyond the moments we share together.

Nicole's Bio

Nicole Zornitzer founded Niyama Yoga Studio in 2007 in a small location that was within an existing wellness center. Having over 30 years of experience in the wellness industry & 23 years’ experience in corporate America working for the largest global cosmetics company in upper management provided her the opportunity to use her talents in an industry that was more meaningful. Nicole’s background, education, and commitment to her clients is paramount to the success of her business and she prides herself in the importance of education, proper training, and surrounding herself with others who have similar values.

In 2019 Nicole opened her first large brick and mortar Yoga Shala and quickly expanded to 3 yoga Shalas in New Jersey as well as a satellite location in South Florida. In the spirit of evolution and growing with market needs, Nicole has continued to nourish her New Jersey presence while also expanding to a more global market with Niyama Yoga’s Wellness Retreats and expansions throughout the Southeast of the United States. Her vision is always expanding and she prides herself in being first to market on many healing modalities that have only recently gained momentum.

In 2020 Nicole founded Niyama Yoga Retreats, which is an international wellness & adventure retreat business that carefully curates intentionally based travel experiences. She travels the world with many like-minded yogis who have found solace and acceptance and community because of Nicole’s efforts.

Nicole certifications include:
E-RYT 2000 Integrative Yoga Therapist, Certified Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant C.A.L.C.) receiving a post baccalaureate degree in Ayurvedic Medicine as well as becoming an Integral Sound Therapist, receiving an advanced degree from the International Sound Healing Academy, Level 2 Diplomam CPYT (prenatal yoga), Radiant Child Children’s Yoga Instructor, Certified Aerial Yoga Instructor, Reiki Energy Healer, Fire Cupping Practioner, Advanced Yin yoga Certified, Mindful Barre Fusion Certification, Yoga Alliance accredited leader of teacher training programs that include 200, 300, yin, & yoga nidra.

She has partnered with corporations, community centers, professional football (most notably the New York Jets football team) and lacrosse teams to encourage health and wellness while helping in their success to achieve maximum benefits of the practice of yoga and meditation.

Nicole’s inspiration:
After suffering from her own personal health crisis in 2015; Nicole turned to her background in yoga to save her own life. It was during this time that she realized the importance of fusing an Ayurvedic lifestyle into her already busy world of yoga, corporate America, motherhood, and relationship. Nicole attributes her motivation and her “why” to her children, Jared & Larissa who are the loves of her life. Through the patience of her partner, Robert, and his support she has been able to see her dream and dharma come to fruition. When she is not in the Shalas or traveling the globe, you will find her riding her bicycle, hiking a mountain, cooking, reading, and most importantly spending quality time with her loved ones and possibly drinking a delicious glass of wine while snuggling with her puppies Steel, Coda-Bear, and Monte.

“I was lucky enough to attend Niyama’s 2020 Tulum Mexico Retreat. I had never been on a yoga retreat before and I had a wonderful time. The location and accommodations were beautiful, but it was Nicole and Niyama that made it amazing. Doing yoga looking out over the ocean amongst such beautiful souls was magical.”

— Sondra, Tulum Winter 2022

“My favorite part of being in the Niyama Tribe is the pure sense of belonging and a place to call home. I’ve grown so close to so many of the tribe members in the past two years. The past retreat at Menla changed me in a way that is almost unexplainable. I am so grateful I was able to find such a dynamic group of people who made me consider my well being and health a top priority.”

— Nancy, The Catskills Fall 2021
